The pop-country singer was born Charles Edgar Walker Hayes in Mobile, Alabama, US, on December 27, 1979. He grew up alongside his eight siblings in his hometown and was raised a Christian. He might have had a wonderful childhood growing up.
While there is no further information regarding Walker Hayes’s family, we do know that sadly Walker Hayes’ father, Charles Hayes, is no longer alive. The singer lost his loving dad, who worked as a realtor, in 2021. Walker has talked about the devastating loss but has stated that God was merciful.
Well, talking about his education, Walker attended Birmingham-Southern College and graduated in 2002. He received a bachelor’s degree in music with an emphasis on piano. It is evident that he was interested in music from an early age.
When Did Walker Hayes Start His Music Career?
Despite earning a degree in music, Walker Hayes reportedly was on his way to be a realtor. But his dad pushed him up on stage when he was 23 and this led to Hayes trying to pursue a career in music. He then moved to Nashville in 2005 and landed a job writing songs for a publishing company. He signed a contract with Mercury Records Nashville but dropped it to move to Capitol Records Nashville.
Walker Hayes continued writing but only made his debut as a recorder in 2010. His first single, Pants debuted at number 60 on the Hot Country Songs charts. He then released his second single, Why Wait for Summer and both of the songs were on the Capitol Records’ album, Reason to Rhyme. He also released his self-titled debut EP, Walker Hayes in September 2010.
The musician continued to write songs and sang guest vocals for other artists such as Colt Ford and Rodney Atkins. But after his contract with Capitol Records ended, Walker had to work at Costco to support himself and his family. Then in 2016, Hayes signed a production and publishing deal with SMACK/RareSpark and Shane McAnally. Through his deal, he put out two EPs, 8Tracks (Vol. 1): Good Shit and 8Tracks (Vol. 2): Break the Internet.
Walker Hayes put out his album, Boom, through Monument Records in 2017. The record included the song, You Broke Up with Me which was highly popular. The following year he put out the single, 90’s Country which was followed up by the EP, 8Tracks (Vol. 3): Black Sheep in 2019.
In 2021, Walker released his fifth EP, Country Stuff. His third studio album, Country Stuff the Album was released in January 2022. Several singles from both of these projects were very popular and released top spots on the chart.
