Durrell Artaze Babbs who goes by Tank professionally is an American singer-songwriter and producer who has already sold millions of albums in the US alone. The multi-talented individual has put out several albums since making his debut in 2001 and is known for his rhythm and blues-inspired music. Babbs has also tried his hand at acting.

The singer-songwriter was born Durrell Artaze Babbs in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on January 1, 1976. However, the Babbs family moved to Maryland when Tank was very young so he was mostly raised there. As for his educational background, Tank reportedly attended Milwaukee Lutheran High School and Crossland High School. There he was a multisport athlete and was also offered the opportunity to play college football. However, Durrell chose to forgo the opportunity and rather turned his focus to music.

When Did Tank Start His Musical Journey?

Aforementioned, rather than playing college football, Tank decided to focus on furthering his music career He started out singing background vocals at Ginuwine’s tours which then led him to sing for Aaliyah. Thereafter, he signed as an artist with Blackground Records, Aaliyah’s record label.

After signing with the record label, Durrell released his debut album, Force of Nature, in 2001. It reportedly debuted at no. 7 on US Billboard 200 and the single, Maybe I Deserve was loved by the listeners. The following year, Tank put out his second album, One Man, and also featured on I Care 4 U, the posthumous compilation of late singer Aaliyah.

Tank’s third studio album, Sex, Love & Pain was released in 2007 and it debuted at no.2 on Billboard 200. The same year, Tank joined forces with Ginuwine and Tyrese Gibson to form a group called TGT. However, the group did not put out music until 2013, when they released their only album, Three Kings.

The Milwaukee-born crooner put out Now or Never, his fourth studio album in December 2010. Tank worked with several artists including Letoya Luckett, Drake, and Chris Brown on this project. Following this his fifth record, This Is How I Feel was released in 2012 while his sixth titled Stronger in August 2014. Singles from all three of the aforementioned projects were pretty successful.

Since 2015, Tank has released several mixtapes and studio albums, all of which have been received well by audiences. The projects that he worked on are listed below:

Durrell Babbs’ album, R&B Money, came after he lost his hearing in the right year. This seems to be his final record as he had already pursued other endeavors. Tank has earned songwriting and production credits working with many artists such as Aaliyah, Dave Hollister, Beyonce, Jamie Foxx, Pitbull, Omarion, and many others. Moreover, he is a part of the production team, Song Dynasty, and The Underdogs.

Furthermore, the multi-talented artist has also contributed to the score of the 2006 musical drama, Dreamgirls. He also had a cameo in the movie and has since starred in a few other movies. He had small parts in Preacher’s Kid, Second Chance Christmas, November Rule, Me, Myself, & Them, Illicit, Seven Deadly Sins: Lust, and The Delrhonda Hood Story.

They tied the knot on July 22, 2018, in Los Angeles, California, in front of their family and friends. Celebrities including Jamie Foxx, LeToya Luckett, Kelly Rowland, Steelo Brim, and Larez Tate were in attendance.
