Mayim Bialik’s family are Jewish immigrants, with three of her four grandparents migrating from Europe. The actress who now considers herself a Modern Orthodox Jewish, was raised as a Reform Jew and became a Bat Mitzvah.

As per IMDb, Mayim’s first acting experience was in an episode of the TV series, Beauty and the Beast in 1987. She then had brief roles in projects such as Pumpkinhead, The Facts of Life, Beaches, Webster, and MacGyver throughout the late 1980s.
In 1990, Bialik booked roles in two TV pilots, Blossom on NBC and Molloy on Fox. She shot six episodes of Molloy for a tryout run and then shot the pilot of Blossom. The Fox show was not picked up, so the young star got the chance to play the lead character Blossom Russo on Blossom.
The series debuted in 1991 and aired until May 1995. Also, between playing Blossom on the show, Mayim also appeared in a few other projects such as Empty Nest, Doogie Howser, M.D., The Hidden Room, Thumbelina, Don’t Drink the Water, and The Wonder Years.
