Where Did Li Jun Li Grow Up?

The Wu Assassins star was born in Shanghai, China to her parents. Lu Jun Li’s father was a painter and when she was six, moved the family to Bogotá, Colombia for work. Three years later, the Li family once again moved and made New York City, US their home. But Li had trouble settling in because she was confused growing up with Chinese traditions but in a drastically different environment.

However, Li Jun made it through and as a New Yorker discovered her love for dancing. She took classes but when she wanted to pursue a career in it, Li received pushback from her father. But unlike many Asian parents, Li’s dad was not pushing her to pursue a stereotypical career like a lawyer or doctor. Rather, he wanted the actress to work in the visual arts sector, not dancing.

Well to appease her dad, Li Jun Li auditioned for both art and dance at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts. She ended up getting into both and spent half a day dancing and the other half focusing on the visual arts.

Moreover, it was at LaGuardia that Li stumbled into acting. The talented star graduated from high school in 2001 and then took acting classes at the Purchase College’s Conservatory of Theatre Arts.

As aforementioned, Li Jun Li discovered her love for acting while studying at LaGuardia. She auditioned for the annual open-major musical theater production in the school and her experience inspired her to pursue a career in the field. She then took acting classes while tending bar, working as a real estate agent, and also attending open calls.

The talented actress’ first break in the work of acting came when she starred in the production of the play South Pacific in 2008 at Lincoln Center, New York. For her on-screen debut, according to IMDb, Li Jun Li first worked on the 2008 project Xu Wu Di Ai. Following this, she had guest roles in shows such as Blue Bloods, Body of Proof, One Life to Live, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, How to Make It in America, and Smash.

Then in 2011, Li Jun Li booked the part of Maggie Huang in the show Damages. She continued to star in the show till 2012 and also worked on the TV movies Freestyle Love Supreme and Americana that year. She then had significant parts in projects such as The Following, Chinese Puzzle, Hostages, Song One, The Humbling, Front Cover, Ricki, and the Flash, and Unforgettable.

In 2015, Li played Akeela in Minority Report, Lisette Lee in One Bad Choice, and Denise in Billy & Billie. That year she also appeared as Anna Tse in an episode of Chicago P.D. But the following year, Li Jun returned to the Chicago P.D. universe playing a different character named Julie Tay. She also reprised the role for an episode of Chicago Fire. 2016 was also the first time people saw the talented star playing Iris Chang in the popular TV show, Quantico.

Following this, Li Jun Li played significant characters in the show, Blindspot, and The Exorcist and in the short film, Extraction. She then found international fame playing Jenny Wah in the Netflix show, Wu Assassins in 2019. The same year, she also appeared as Amy Grove in three episodes of Why Women Kill and Grace Ling in Evil.

Since then, the Shanghai-born actress has starred in feature films like Construction and Modern Persuasion and television projects such as Devils, Sex/Life, and Hatfields & McCoys.
