Netflix’s fantasy series Warrior Nun became an instant hit after its premier in July 2020. Along with great audience engagement, the show also received positive reviews. Where Did Kristina Tonteri-Young Spent Her Childhood?
The Warrior Nun star was born Kristina Annika Tonteri-Young in Helsinki, Finland on January 17, 1998. She moved to New York City towards the end of 2005 with her family and spent much of her formative years there. Moreover, she also spent a few years during her middle school in Moscow.
Kristina Tonteri-Young’s parents are Finnish and New Zealand but since she traveled around a lot, she considers herself a citizen of the world. Moreover, her father is Chinese who grew up in Auckland, New Zealand, after his family moved there from Hong Kong. As a result of her mixed heritage, Kristina states that she felt like she did not really belong anywhere.
What Courses Has Kristina Tonteri-Young Completed?
Due to her unique upbringing, Kristina’s educational background is also eclectic. Whether she attended any traditional school is unknown but we do know that she was a student at The Bolshoi Ballet Academy. She was in Moscow, Russia from 2009 to 2012 learning ballet as well as Russian.
During her time there, Kristina appeared in Le Corsaire and The Sleeping Beauty at the Kremlin Ballet as well as in La fille mal gardée at Bolshoi Theatre. But sadly, after a series of injuries, Tonteri-Young’s ballet career ended and she returned to New York.
The talented artist then turned her focus to acting and moved to London to study at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. She studied there from 2016 to 2019 and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. But even before enrolling at Guildhall, Kristina had attended Shakespeare summer courses at Royal Academy of Dramatic Art at the age of 16.
While studying acting in England, Tonteri-Young appeared in numerous stage plays including The Last Days of Judas Iscariot, The Crocodile’s Gift and Saturday, Sunday, Monday and more. It is evident that she did well during her time there.
What Projects Has Kristina Tonteri-Young Worked On?
Soon after completing her studies from Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Kristina Tonteri-Young booked her first on screen role in the first season of Netflix’s adaptation of Warrior Nun. The filming took place from March 2019 to July 2019 and the show premiered in July 2020. Kristina played one of the main characters, Sister Beatrice on the series and was loved by both critics and audiences for her performance.
Following its international success, Warrior Nun returned for the second season in November 2022. Tonteri-Young reprised her part as Beatrice and appeared in all eight episodes of the show. Sadly, Warrior Nun was canceled a month after season two was released and Kristina has talked about the end in a few interviews.
Nonetheless, the actress is happy with her work on the series and has thanked the fans for their appreciation for her performance and her character.
