Where Did Josie Walker Grow Up?

The This Is Going to Hurt actress was born as the youngest child and only daughter of Roy Walker and Jean Walker in Belfast, Northern Ireland. She grew up alongside her siblings, Mark Walker and Philip Walker, and shares a close bond with them. Josie Walker’s father, Roy is a popular comedian, best known as the host of the game show, Catchphrase, and a star of The Comedians, a comedy showcase.

Like their dad, Josie’s brothers too tried their hand at comedy and found much fame. Moreover, Mark also hosted the ITV game show, Steal for a series in 1990.

Well, it is evident that talent runs in the Walker family’s blood and they have utilized it to entertain audiences in various fields. She even earned a Best Actress in a Musical nomination at the Laurence Olivier Awards for her work in the latter two productions.

Sadly, during the preview of The Beautiful Game in September 2000, Josie was accidentally shot on stage. The character Walker was playing was supposed to prevent murder by pulling the person’s arm. While doing so, the gun which contained blanks went off resulting in the talented actress sustaining powder wounds to her cheeks.

Moreover, Josie talked about the psychological damage after the incident. But the strong woman chose to come back to star in the opening night and the subsequent shows.

Well despite the harrowing incident, Josie Walker continued with her acting journey and worked on numerous plays in National theaters. A few of the productions she appeared in are The Silver Tassie, War Horse, 3 Winters, The Plough and the Stars, Husbands and Sons, and The Ocean at the End of the Lane. For her performance in the latter play, Josie earned Olivier Awards nominations in the Best Actress in a Supporting Role category.

Besides her extensive on-stage portfolio, the Northern Irish actress also enjoyed a successful onscreen career. Her first appearance was in an episode of The Bill in 1995 but her second work in television came a decade later. Following her guest appearance in Blessed, Josie continued the flow starring in EastEnders, Psychoville, Waterloo Road, Call the Midwife, and the video, The Sleeping Beauty of East Finchley.

Walker’s feature film debut came in 2014 when she played the character Rose Narracott in the movie War Horse. She also worked on Holby City, Midwinter of the Spirit, Fishbowl, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, Where Hands Touch, and The Murders at White House Farm. Most recently, Josie found prominence due to her appearances in Kenneth Branagh’s Belfast, BBC’s This Is Going to Hurt, and the 2022 movie, The Wonder. Her work in these projects has been applauded by viewers and critics alike.
