Jonathan Scott’s parents Joanne Scott and Jim Scott worked as a paralegal and youth counselors in Vancouver respectively. The Scott couple wanted their kids to be hard workers so, when Jonathan and Drew were seven, their father encouraged them to get jobs.

They founded their own real estate company while also collaborating with their older brother to found a film production company, Dividian Production Group. While Realtor Idol did not work out, the producers developed another show around the Scott brothers.
