Where Did Jeremy Pope Grow Up?

The talented actor was born in Orlando, Florida, US on July 9, 1992. He was a student at Timber Creek High School in Orlando and later attended the American Musical and Dramatic Academy. He graduated from the prestigious conservatory for the performing arts and went on to pursue a career in acting.

He reprised the part for his regional debut and played Pharus Jonathan Young at the Alliance Theatre and Geffen Playhouse.

However, Pope had failed to book the same part when he auditioned for the London production early in his journey.

Following the success of Choir Boy, Jeremy played the character Griffin in the 2015 Second Stage Theater production of Invisible Thread and Wes in The View Upstairs in 2017 at Lynn Redgrave Theater. Both of these plays were off-Broadway productions. Then, from 2017 to 2018, Pope starred as Eddie Kendricks in the jukebox musical, Ain’t Too Proud. He performed as the character for audiences at Berkeley Repertory Theatre, The Kennedy Center, and Ahmanson Theatre in the US, and the Princess of Wales Theatre in Toronto, Canada.

The Orlando native made his Broadway debut in 2018 reprising the part of Pharus Jonathan Young in Choir Boy at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre. The show ran till 2019 and in the latter year, Jeremy once again played Eddie Kendricks in the Broadway revival of Ain’t Too Proud.

For his performances in these plays, Pope was nominated for Best Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical (Ain’t Too Proud) and Best Actor in a Leading Role in a Play (Choir Boy) in the 2019 Tony Award. He is the sixth person in the award’s history to be nominated for two different performance categories in the same year. Moreover, he also earned a Grammy Award nomination for Best Musical Theater Album for his work in Ain’t Too Proud in 2020.

Continuing with his stage work, Jeremy Pope played Jean-Michael Basquiat in the play The Collaboration, written by Anthony McCarten and directed by Kwame Kwei-Armah. It originated at The Young Vic in London with Pope starring alongside Paul Bettany who plays Andy Warhol. The production made its Broadway transfer to Samuel J. Friedman Theatre and performances reportedly began on November 29, 2022.

However, he has since starred in a few on-screen projects and even made a name for himself in the field.

Well, Jeremy’s debut came in 2018 when he had a small part in the movie The Ranger. This was followed by his playing one of the main characters Archie Coleman in the mini-series Hollywood in 2020. For his performance in the show, Pope was nominated for many awards including Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie in the 2020 Primetime Emmy Award.
