Jake Kasdan is a well known name seeing as he comes from a family involved in the entertainment business. He is best known for his work as the director of movies such as Orange County, Bad Teacher, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and more. The Bad Teacher director was born as Jacob Kasdan in Detroit, Michigan on October 28, 1974. He grew up alongside his younger brother Jonathan Peter Kasdan aka Jon Kasdan, who is also involved in the film and television industry. Jake Kasdan’s father is Lawrence Kasdan, a writer-director known for his Star Wars films. As for his mother, Meg Goldman aka Meg Kasdan is a writer.

Kasdan was raised in a Jewish family but had very little religious education. He basically grew up on movie sets, even playing small parts in Silverado, The Accidental Tourist and Big Chill in the 1980s. Moreover, Jake considers his father his original teacher as Lawrence taught him all about how all of the things in filmmaking worked.

As for traditional education, it is unclear if Jake ever attended a college. But he must have completed his high school studies from his hometown.

What Projects Has Jake Kasdan Worked On?

Aforementioned, Jake grew up surrounded by the filmmaking world and also had small parts in movies in the 1980s. He played background characters in The Big Chill, Silverado and The Accidental Tourist and was credited as Jacob Kasdan. However, his first proper work in the industry came only in the late 90s. He served as the director and producer in the 1998 movie Zero Effect and also voiced a character in it.

This was followed by Jake Kasdan’s work as a director and consulting producer in the teen comedy drama. While he directed five episodes, he served as a consulting producer in fifteen episodes between 1999 and 2000. Jake then worked on Grosse Pointe and Undeclared, directing two and one episodes each respectively. He also directed the 2002 comedy movie Orange County starring Jack Black and Colin Hanks.

The same year, Kasdan wrote, directed and co-executive produced a pilot titled Zero Effect. However the television pilot remained unsold and Jake seemed to have taken a break from the business. He returned to the field having written, produced and directed the films The TV Set and Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story in 2006 and 2007 respectively.
