Where Is Christina Ricci From?

The talented star was born on February 12, 1980, in Santa Monica, California, USA as the youngest of four kids. Christina Ricci’s parents are Ralph Ricci and Sarah Ricci and she grew up alongside her older siblings, Rafael Ricci, Dante Ricci, and Pia Ricci. Her father, Ralph had a varied career, working as a gym teacher, drug counselor, primal scream therapist, and also a lawyer.

As for her mother, Sarah first worked as a model before pursuing a career as a real estate agent. Sadly, Christina’s parents separated when she was a preteen and she has been vocal about its effect on her in interviews. Moreover, Ricci has had a turbulent relationship with her father and was not in contact according to her 2011 interview with The Guardian.

While she was born in California, Christina’s family moved to Montclair, New Jersey. She grew up there and attended Edgemont Elementary School and Glenfield Middle School. She was also enrolled at Montclair High School, and Morristown-Beard School before attending the Professional Children’s School in New York.

When Did Christina Ricci Start Her Acting Journey?

Christina Ricci found interest in acting from an early age and was discovered by a local theater critic at the age of eight. She was in a school production of The Twelve Days of Christmas at the time. Following this, Ricci got the chance to appear in a pair of spoof commercials for Saturday Night Live. After featuring in two of these commercials, Christina gained her SAG-AFTRA card.

Ricci then made her acting debut playing the character Olivia in an episode of H.E.L.P. in 1990. That same year she also appeared in the movie Mermaids and the music video of THe Shoop Shoop Song, which was in the film’s soundtrack. Christina appeared alongside Cher and Winona Ryder in these projects. The following year, the young actress starred as Bonnie in the film The Hard Way.

The year 1991 also saw the Santa Monica-born star playing the iconic character Wednesday Addams in the movie The Addams Family and the music video Hammer: Addams Groove. She reprised the role for the sequel Addams Family Values and in 1993 and received critical acclaim for her performances in these movies. She also appeared in the music video, Tag Team: Addams Family (Whoomp!) and in an episode of Saturday Night Live as Wednesday and starred as Jessica in the film, The Cemetery Club in 1993.

Following this, Ricci started dating James Heerdegen, a dolly grip whom she met while filming Pan Am. They announced their engagement in February 2013 and tied the knot in Manhattan on October 26, 2013. The following year in August 2014, Christina gave birth to the pair’s first and only child, Freddie Heerdegen.

Sadly, the relationship was not always roses and sunshine and the details of the troubles came out after Christina filed for divorce in July 2020. In the filing, Ricci stated that she was subjected to severe emotional and physical abuse by her estranged husband and many of the acts actually happened in front of their son. Moreover, police had responded to a call at the duo’s house in June of that year which led to Christina being granted an emergency protective order against James.

The order prohibited contact between Christina and James and the actress was also granted a domestic violence restraining order against her former husband. Their divorce was reportedly finalized in June 2021 while Ricci was granted full custody of Freddie in April of that year.

Following the traumatizing experience, the Wednesday star found love again and has already tied the knot again. Christina Ricci’s husband is Mark Hampton, a hairstylist, and the duo announced their marriage in October 2021.
